Sontag with Green Soup!

Temperatures have dropped suddenly. Whether this will now be the norm for the end of summer and in to the bountiful month of September, is to be seen. Projects are being ploughed through during the long bank holiday weekend. There will be walking too.

Cooking as ever is on my mind and I have much greenery including a giant marrow (gifted to me from an allotment), the latter which will go in a pita sa tikva (search the post on my blog for recipe).

If you are planning on starting to grow your own veg I would heartily recommend perpetual spinach, purple broccoli, spring onions, chard, green beans and peas as easy and generous in yield when grown organically.

This weekend’s soup will be green – including the leaves and flower heads mentioned above, adding in the holy trinity of onion, carrot and celery plus garlic, some herbs. A handful of puy lentils too. Then cornbread with a little spinach.

I have steadily lost a few lbs this month, hurrah!

What else  –  I have returned to editing my manuscript.

Here and now

I suppose I should say something about writing. I’m editing. There, that’s it! The good old Work In Progress is progressing. The other one is bubbling along. Other things are being explored too, making art, learning another language and yes, an exciting trip coming up. Enjoying a new, yet familiar place I have moved to. Cooking and walking. Sunshine – there is more of it- and warmth. Busyness and peace. Deciduous woodlands, rolling green hills and birdsong. DSCF0017 DSCF0016

How to say it…

The weekend’s been for writing and contemplation.

The writing has been going through a thorough renovation as I become ever more brave about editing.  The fear was always there with writing. Never with art. I had no fear of scrubbing it all out, no fear of starting again. Writing is different for me. I hold on to the words, the story, the characters. Too afraid to let it all change.

Writing Butterfly Coffee is like working dough or pastry.  But with dough I am more in tune with the process, with the contents, the expectation of the final result. With pastry – the conditions have to be right. With all these things, patience, always patience. Waiting.

I have learned to have a bit of patience.

When you lose an entire manuscript, it takes a lot to summon the confidence to start again. But the renewing of the story has lead to a different approach, gingerly stepping forward in to  the haar of the mind. A maturity has set in.

The contemplation has been about going in deeper and deeper. Asking inside – what is it, where is it, how.

Discarding so much en route on this journey has been the purpose. Not acquiring, but letting go. Losing things, waving good bye to people. Baggage not needed. And my, I have hoarded so much internally, so much of others’ lives.

So forgive me if I seem distant, I am changing (a little) at the moment, as is my story. The dough is rising, the pastry is shaping, the words are working.
